Review: Simon Ferdinand – Kingsize EP – Polycarp

HouseReviews

The „Kingsize EP“ is the debut release on Simon Ferdinand’s very own and freshly founded Polycarp Records imprint. With several releases on labels like Night Drive Music, Landed Records and Frank Music he already put his name on the map. Now with his new label he has a proper foundation to release his own tracks and works from friends and artists that match his idea or share his vision of contemporary house music. With the „Kingsize EP“ he sticks to his sound with loop-based and clearly structured club tracks that are still playful and come with a certain drive. The first release is a solid package of three original tracks and a decent Map.ache remix off the title track. Keep reading

Review: Interstate – Untitled EP – Whytenumbers

HouseReviews

Interstate’s Untitled EP marks the first release for the newly founded Whytenumbers label. The strange spelling of „whyte“ is a small hint to the main label it belongs to, we are talking about Blaqnumbers of course. While Blaqnumbers always played with a bit of downtempo and hip hop elements in combination with raw and deep house sounds, Whytenumbers now gets a bit more experimental and takes those elements more serious, as well as serving a bit of uptempo house as well. Interstate’s EP clearly depicts a strong relationship to early hip hop and electronic influences throughout. Four sublime tracks came across the road and build a great debut release for the Whytenumbers imprint. Keep reading

Review: Vicmari – Vicmari – Eclipser Chaser

HouseReviewsTechno

Vicmari is an up and coming artist from Durban, South Africa. South Africa’s vital house scene should be known by almost any of us with it’s love for deep and highly emotive house tracks. On Eclipser Chaser Vicmari not just releases his first vinyl he also releases a full album which goes by the name „Audiodidact“. While the LP comes out in digital form there will be an album sampler on vinyl, which is the one we will talk about in this review. The sampler will be the 7th release by Eclipser Chaser and Vicmari follows up artists like Warten Borgmann, DJ Honesty and Tommy Vicari Jnr. A nicely done and modern house EP with 3 original tracks and a superb Cab Drivers remix. Keep reading

Review: Michael Melchner – π Came First – Colt Music

HouseReviewsTechno

Michael Melchner is back in business with his π Came First EP for Madrid’s very own Colt Music label. After several releases on labels like Concealed Sounds, Paragram, DoEasy, Love Letters From Oslo and many more, Michael once again shows us his idea of minimalistic house and techno that clearly relies on simple structures and a driving groove to keep dancers and clubgoers over the world in motion. For the third release by Colt Music he sticks to his strengths and offers a nicely done thee track EP. He joins the label after records from Hamid and a re-release by Brian Harden which also offered minimalistic and grooving tracks to the young label’s catalogue. Keep reading

Review: Trux – Trux – Office Recordings

HouseReviewsTechno

Office Recordings‘ 7th release came out a couple of days ago, displaying a brand new style of contemporary music. With catalogue nr. 7 by Baaz’s very own Berlin based imprint it’s not about club playtime, this release is for connoisseurs of experimental and left field house music and ambient fans. The producer behind this project Trux remains a mystery, no information can be found. The self titled Trux release comes as a kind of mini LP with eight tracks, four on the a-side and four on the b-side. A nice mix between obscure house and free floating ambient add a whole new sound idea to the label’s earlier releases. Again the artwork keeps up with the music in terms of quality, created by the highly talented Super Quiet. Keep reading

With the Chromophore EP Slow Life once again delivers a release that matches their unique way. There’s not much you have to say about the collective anymore. The Gang consisting of Laurine, DJ Tree, Cecilio, S. Moreira and P. Villalba stands for quality podcasts, selections, parties and superb releases. For catalogue number SL006 they gathered a nice amount of tracks and release their first double 12 inch. Besides Saverio Celestri and S. Review: Betke – Paris-Beirut-Texas (incl. Baaz & So Inagawa Remix) – Slices of Life

HouseReviewsTechno

With the 8th release from Slices of Life, the Berlin based label from Barbara Preisinger once again offers an outstanding selection of contemporary club tracks. Originally produced in 2008 Betke’s funky and rough „Paris-Beirut-Texas“ finally sees the light of day. Serving some nice grooves for a smooth club night, on top the track gets a great remix from So Inagawa who already showed his amazing understanding of house and techno several times. Plus Office Recordings owner Baaz adds a great dub interpretation of the original to complete the EP in great style. Keep reading

After his first vinyl release on Love Revolution, Cromby gets a warm welcome by Drei Farben House on his Tenderpark imprint for his „Planets and Parks EP“. London based Cromby is a fresh guy production wise, whilst as a dj he holds down residencies at Belfast Institutions, Stiff Kitten & Shine and is quite experienced. Review: Chocky & Tilman – Chocky & Tilman EP – Ears Have Eyes

HouseReviews

London based Chocky and Mainz based Tilman show us their ideas of club music on Peckham’s very own Ears Have Eyes. The split EP consists of two cuts from Chocky on the a-side and three tracks by Tilman on the b-side, giving us the joy of choosing between house and techno tunes to spice up our shelves. Chocky & Tilman are well known for their output on labels like Klamauk, Tenderpark, Big Bait, Disconnected and many more. While the a-side concentrates on the deeper side of house music, Tilman on the b-side shows us his multifacetedness with 3 diverse contributions.
