Review: Cromby – Planets and Parks EP – Tenderpark

HouseReviews

After his first vinyl release on Love Revolution, Cromby gets a warm welcome by Drei Farben House on his Tenderpark imprint for his „Planets and Parks EP“. London based Cromby is a fresh guy production wise, whilst as a dj he holds down residencies at Belfast Institutions, Stiff Kitten & Shine and is quite experienced. He already warmed up the floor for Kerri Chandler, Jeremy Underground Paris and many more with his cozy interpretation of house music. His sound is characterised by rawness and an edge of chicago house taking part as well. For the 19th release on Tenderpark he came up with 3 original tracks full of warmth and soul.

Opening the stage for Cromby’s „Planets and Parks EP“ is „The Good Shit“. The track consists of a lovely used tambourine, melodic and slowly moving pads as well as a great bass guitar to add some organic feeling to it. All those sounds in combination with the lower bpm figure creates an enjoyable tune with a certain bounce. The groove grabs you in an elegant way without forcing you to anything, everything can happen but nothing must. With the vocal on top this track literally speaks to you and as soon as your feet start to move, the conversation is in full effect. No discussions, but no small talk as well. It feels like talking about the past with a good friend you haven’t seen for a while. Oh lord, what a joy! „Planets“ on the b-side seems to be the counterpart. The sounds are heavier, the snares are clicking excitingly and an acid synth line plays tag with a fluffy string. Acid and ambient sounds meet in this track to generate a playful tune that has something to it that’s hard to describe. Contraries take part throughout the 5 minutes lasting journey through space. The last track on this EP is called „Smoke & Bubbles“. Featuring rhythmic percussions, super soft pads and a heavy bouncing bassline. The drums are on point and support the bongos perfectly to create a lovely dynamic. The dreamful sound layers on top make you feel comfortable and after a few seconds you automatically start to sing the vocal without thinking about it. „Smoke & Bubbles“ is bringing this EP to a great ending. Weightless house music, it’s simply impossible to get enough of it. In conclusion this EP serves you three flamboyant tracks by Cromby. Although the tracks have some parallels, none of the tracks copies the other. All of them are unique and offer you a nice variety of sounds – whether it is acid infused house, a nice mid-tempo burner or a fluffy and dreamful love affair. All of this can be found on the „Planets and Parks EP“ which is a great addition to Tenderpark’s outstanding catalogue.
