Review: Baaz – Untitled [Office08]- Office Recordings

HouseReviewsTechno

Baaz once again offers a neat little package on his own Office Recordings Imprint. The „Untitled“ EP is the 8th release on his Berlin based house and techno label. A very enjoyable set of house cuts and ambient works came out at the end of the productional process, again he shows his fine sense for deep house. On top he added some nice ambient vibes and shows his progress when it comes to producing different genres of club music, as you can also hear on his new project which goes by the name Eric Miller with already 2 releases on the sublime Sushitech label where he takes care of dub techno and darker sounds.

„Kraut House“ is the opening track on the Untitled EP and comes along with serious house vibes. Repetitive percussions and dark strings fit perfectly between some heavy kicks and the extremely low bassline that pops up in between. The result is a bouncing foundation that gets the floor going. Support comes from heavenly sounding pads that float through the track in a very decent and calm way. „Kraut House“ is a serious deep house bomb that focuses on a steady rhythm to paint a dreamy picture. The second track on the a-side is called „You (Can’t)“ and shows Baaz‘ love for ambient sounds. Simple and calm vocals are filtered into the background and take turns with lush percussions. Child vocals in the back make this ambient trip a bit more vivid than classic ambient normally is. „You (Can’t)“ clearly bears Bastian’s signature, it’s a nice and relaxing trip with his typical vocal work and well played percussion sounds mixed up with endless strings and pads throughout. „Modul“ opens the b-side with delayed vocals and simple pads that work great in combination with a kick with a bit of attack. The agile bassline with a little acid vibe could almost be described as funky which is unusual for Baaz tracks, but it adds some tension and power to the arrangement. The percussions hold back and don’t add too much drive to the track to keep his emtionality. Perfect after hour vibes or as a small break in a prime time set, both could be a great place to play this one. „Modul“ shows a very minimalistic attempt towards house and club music in general. „Simple E“ closes this great 4 tracks heavy EP from Baaz on his own imprint. When you listen to the details that can be found in this track and close your eyes it almost feels like watching a movie. Bouncing kicks and bassline hits, unagitated vocals that are telling a story, a few percussion and drum sounds every now and then. That’s all and you don’t miss a thing. A lovely piano melody on top and there it is. A lovely house track that seems so basic, but offers so much more if you listen closely. Nothing but beautiful music.
