Introducing: Office Recordings

IntroducingLabels

In 2012 Baaz released the first record on his newly founded, Berlin based imprint „Office Recordings“ which goes by the name „What About Talk About #1“. The Flipside of this record revealed a completely different side of Baaz, with the slow and melancholic hip hop flick „Way Out Citti“. With this track he proved that he’s not just an exceptional producer for deep house tunes, but has a lot more to offer when it comes to experiments with different genres. But „Office Rec.“ isn’t just a playground for his own productions, it also features EPs by his friends Christopher Rau and Iron Curtis so far. Both showed a different style of sound that we were used to. With „Magnet“ Iron Curtis contributed a banging four to the floor track, including crisp and pounding kicks, a lovely and unexpected voice-break and some extremely long-lasting patterns on his „The K.M.S. Years“ EP. Whilst Christopher Rau focused on a great bongo-loop to maintain an almost endlessly funky and happy groove, supported by playful chords and super soft vocal snippets. But the stand out release for the label so far definitely has to be Baaz‘ debut album. After an endless amount of releases he finally took the next step and produced the 10 tracks lasting „Red Souvenirs“ LP. With his album he adds another facet to his sound starting with an ambient related track called „Everyone“ that just makes you forget about time and space and just shakes you at the same time with sparse use of kicks at the right time. A few tracks later there’s the next unpredictable surprise with „Pressyn“. This track is so intense and makes your head bop instantly. Fluffy claps, a popping bassline, synths and futuristic elements meet hip hop drum-patterns in a way we never heard before. So it seems like „Office Recordings“ offers space for experiments, not just for Baaz himself and the artists he signs. Also the artwork offers place for unconventional ideas and is put together by exciting artists like Christian Fladung, who is an outstanding photographer, or the design team Super Quiet that also realized cover artworks for labels such as „Bliq“.  We are really keen what comes next from the headquarters of „Office Recordings“ and hope that the upcoming releases will be able to catch up with the quality of the first six releases of this young and exciting label.
