Ohrenschmaus Podcast #063 – Fred Buddah

Our Podcasts

Fred Buddah from South Africa is trying to push the South African deep house scene with his own sound. Incorporating mother earth’s sounds and African originals into his own interpretation of deep house and techno. It’s not just ending up in a unique sound it also brings the sound of his surroundings to people all over the world. Exactly this combination is what struck is in 2014 as he released the Mystical Arts EP on Roots Go Deep with Ofuren. Since those days we knew he had to be on our show and finally, he’s here. The founder of Roots Go Deep was immediately down with the idea of featuring him in our podcast series and now closes 2018 in a perfect manner. Earthy deep house spiced with some strong rhythms and energetic pads blast away winter’s grey sadness.

Christmas Candies: Elpierro – Space Travel

Specials
Space Travel by Elpierro

Pierre from Erlangen is not just a stable uploader on Soundcloud we also consider him a close friend. Due to his presence on Soundcloud and in the club scene of Nuremberg almost 10 years ago, we immediately clicked. We always discussed tracks and sent projects back and forth so both sides were able to grow as producers, DJs and first and foremost as humans. While we took back from producing and focused on DJing and our podcast he always kept going. With Space Travel he proves that hard work and just going for it makes a difference. In contrast to his older tracks that already offered a glimpse of what he’s capable of, he now created a true dance floor powerhouse. The agile synth just keeps you locked in the zone with his elegant energy. Together with the strong drum elements and those deep, long strings, it’s just working beautifully. Space Travel by Elpierro cleary is his best work so far. That’s why we are so happy to feature this excellent production in our Christmas Candies series. As always it is free to download on Soundcloud. Thank you, Pierre, we really appreciate your music and friendship!

Christmas Candies

Christmas Candies is our second December series or compilation. Some years ago we had the idea to gather some tracks by friends of Ohrenschmaus Podcast and upload them during the Christmas time as a gift for our listeners and readers. The first series was called Candle Tracks and followed the same rules. Music that is free to download for everyone on Soundcloud with only one thing in common: quality! And that’s where we continue in 2018 with the Christmas Candies series. This compilations sound is located in or somewhere around the house genre and simply wants to display music from our circle of friends. When the series comes to an end we will produce a tape compilation with all of the tracks that will feature a nice design. The tape will be 100% handmade and comes in limited numbers. So if you’re a tape fan or simply want to support us just order yourself a quality tape. It will be sold at a reasonable price that only covers our production costs. But for now, stay tuned for the upcoming pieces of music and enjoy your Christmas gift. One love, Ohrenschmaus Podcast.

WASI - Adé

Christmas Candies: WASI – Adé

Specials
Adé by WASI

As our beloved friend, WASI will leave Nuremberg for a new job it is kind of obvious that we have mixed feelings at the moment. We are happy for him and the goal he has achieved, but at the same time, we are sad that a friend leaves. Yeah, we will meet and visit each other. Sure, but the feeling of loss remains. This emotionality is perfectly engraved to the sound of his track Adé. Adé is a modification of Ade which means goodbye in German. So everything falls together perfectly. Our feelings, the track, the name, the upload timing and his farewell party. Pure joy and melancholy meet on all levels, not just in real life, but also in this superb track you’ve sent us. We couldn’t have thought about a better way to kick off the compilation. Thanks for your help, music and your friendship. Adé by WASI or as we have to say Adé to WASI.

Further information

Base Pilot the collaborative project behind the Neighbour Recordings label was kind enough to give us some copies of the „Life Is Rhythm“ EP of a raffle. Birke TM & Quantec teamed up to craft the labels debut EP. Combining the talent to produce a fabulous record that features Quantec’s dub skills with Birke TM’s feeling for outstanding drum sounds and soft chords was definitely a success. The four original tracks displayed on the „Life Is Rhythm“ EP reach from low-slung house gems that offer cosiness and warmth all the way to mystical dub echoes for the dance floor. What all tracks have in common is a certain understatement and deepness that directly connects to the listeners.

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #062 – Anaid

Our Podcasts

Our 62nd episode features Anaid. She is a passionate singer, producer and DJ from Bucharest and established herself well in the micro house scene over the last couple of years. She is releasing music since 2013 on labels like Ar.ctic, Defora Records, Micromood_rec, Plusar Recordings, Unfelde Records and Cimelde Records. We came in touch a couple of weeks ago while sharing songs and we asked her if she was kind enough to contribute when she‘s got some spare time. Thankfully she provided a deep and driving mix with a sublime selection of micro tracks and excellent mixing. We are very happy about this percussion-heavy mix that is located in-between micro house and minimal techno since it’s the first of its genre on our platform. She created a mesmerizing balance between energetic drum tracks and fluffy synth based house beauties. This interplay simply levels this podcast in great fashion. Due to this variety, this podcast holds a certain tension throughout and appeals to be a smooth roller coaster ride. Thanks for that, your Ohrenschmaus Podcast!

[Not] Hip Hop Selection #017 by Molinero

Our SLCTNs

The summer slowly comes to an end and we wanted to bring some bright memories back. So we got in touch with Molinero, a fine selector from Nuremberg that has a strong taste in house music, but even more so in the fields of disco, funk, folk and foreign music. So we asked him to do a SLCTN for us and here we are. SLCTN #017 is the first one without any rap or beats in it. Positive vibes all the way and the unofficial title already says it all: Reflections of summer. It combines 16 records from 13 countries. But don’t call it world music. German fusion meets latin jazz from Martinique, Carribean dub and many other genres from the rest of the world. Take your chance and see him playing beautiful tracks at Blok, Nuremberg every now and then or head over to his Soundcloud account linked below. Thanks for this uplifting and positive recording, Marius. This is excellent!

FUEL – Basco [Ashore]

FUEL

Basco from Ashore is not just a person that shares the enthusiasm for blogging with us. He also is a like-minded person speaking of his musical taste. Besides his love for elegant house and deep techno he also is deeply rooted in hip-hop and rap with all its influences, sample sources and everything else. For Basco golden era beats and modern, more pop related beats are no contradiction. He cherishes both equally and simply integrates a ridiculous amount of different styles and genres into his musical world. This openness and love for music truly follow our ideas and beliefs. You can hear this unique approach in our 16th Hip Hop Selection where he perfectly displayed his skills and talented ear. This list of favourites, however, is pretty much shaped through his brother’s influences. This list consists of selected works Basco was introduced to by his eight years older brother. Nowadays it is the other way around. Sascha forwards new music to his brother and tells him about readworthy literature. Although his brother isn’t an avid reader. What hasn’t changed over the last years is the importance of his brother’s hints and lead. Something we should all be thankful for.

Favourite book: Selim Özdogan – Nirgendwo & Hormone

I think I own almost every book by Selim Özdogan except one or two maybe – even though I don’t like every single one. I really like his early works. They still get me with their simplicity and light-footedness. Just like „Nirgendwo & Hormone“. He writes simply and clearly, but he doesn’t bore the reader. And to be honest, I often used some titles of his short stories for my mixes or used quotes for the inner cover of my mixtapes. „Nirgendwo & Hormone“ is a road movie in a book. You travel through the wasteland, bars and wild nights while love and friendship are put on a test. It’s almost like you could smell, taste and feel the desert while reading. „Nirgendwo & Hormone“ has a steady place in my favourites for eternity, although quite a few think that his debut is even better. (it is exceptional)

Selim Özdogan - Nirgendwo & Hormone

Favourite movie: Absolute Giganten

The amount of Hamburg visits I’ve done is quite negligible: I’ve been there once with my school class and visited St. Pauli, many years after I’ve been at DJ Koze’s apartment for an interview and then I’ve been there in winter one week before the Golem club closed to spin some records and my last trip is just a few weeks behind where I finally experienced the summer in the city for three days. But my fascination for Hamburg was born through „Absolute Giganten“. Way before „Victoria“ (I still didn’t see the movie by now. Damn!) Sebastian Schipper came up with a movie that is heavily quoted til now. I think you already know what I’m talking about, when it’s most beautiful, the record is jumping and so on. Regardless of how this scene and many others turned into a cliché „Absolute Giganten“ in its entity remains as one of the best and most beautiful movies about friendship – and Hamburg

Favourite Album: The Van Pelt – Sultans of Sentiment

Already in third or fourth grade, my brother made tapes with his favourite music for me. They mostly contained so-called emo from 1994 to 1998, besides hardcore. The second emo wave, or however you will call it. I’m talking about bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Jimmy Eat World, The Promise Ring and others. And of course about The Van Pelt. They already were unique back in the days and more so today. Their music is detached from genres, categories and scenes extremely timeless, that’s because of the songs themselves – I love every song on this album -, but also due to Chris Leo’s singing. Which isn’t really singing, it’s almost storytelling. The Sound they’ve created remains unique until this very moment to me, only Reiziger from Belgium and Marr came close to it in some time and some sort. A few months ago both LPs were re-released on vinyl. Lucky me! Because my copy I’ve got from my brother already had some scratches and wasn’t out there for a reasonable price until now. There’s no second album I own so many times on CD or as a vinyl record.

Base Pilot - Life Is Rhythm EP - Neighbour Recordings

Review: Base Pilot – Life Is Rhythm EP – Neighbour Recordings

HouseReviewsTechno

Base Pilot is a newly found collaborative project by Quantec and Birke TM. They not just share the passion for music, but also a long-lasting friendship and finally combined these two things. With their Life Is Rhythm EP on their own Neighbour Recordings imprint both start into a new chapter. Quantec should be a name for most of us, due to his almost endless stream of quality dub techno releases on labels like Echocord, Styrax, Silent Season and more. Birke TM also is a true music aficionado and produces beats for many years. A superb EP on London’s very own Feelharmonic Records marked his debut. Under Base Pilot, they join forces and craft everything they like. From deep house cuts to stomping dub techno. Everything is possible. With their first release as partners, they deliver a smooth package of four original tracks from the before mentioned fields of club music. This mixture of dub, house and hip-hop clearly unifies the influences of both artists and leads to a unique EP that is not missing any remix. Keep reading

FUEL – Jannick Baal

FUEL

Jannick Baal is a local DJ from the Nuremberg area. As a friend of the team and a person with strong beliefs, it was clear that we had to feature him. Sound-wise he might be located in a more modern part of club music. His sound reflects his spirituality and love for clean productions. His sets transport a decent energy and steadily offer a flow that makes it easy to follow along and enjoy the night. He displayed those qualities in and around Nuremberg in locations like Haus 33, E-Werk and more.

Favourite book: Hermann Hesse – Siddhartha

The book that impressed me the most is Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. It takes care of beauty, focus and some sort of disciplined freedom in a unique way. All of this is required to understand the concept of integrity and get a closer look.

Hermann Hesse – Siddhartha

Favourite movie or series: Too many

I really love tons of movies and series. I really care about the concept of it and the development throughout the series or the movie. The concept needs to feature exceptional characters and a storyline that is exciting. There’s nothing worse than an ending that is predictable.

Favourite track, mix or album: Too many

There’s no certain mix, album or track that I can place in the limelight so to speak. I could start a list about music that I really love and would never come to an end. To be totally honest I’m fascinated by the future and its endless possibilities. Technology is evolving so fast and always brings up new capabilities. Thanks to this evolution there are so many ways to sample, generate or reproduce sounds and create new ones. All of this can be interpreted, combined and added in several ways. It’s just an endless playground.

Hip Hop Selection #016 by Basco

Our SLCTNs

Sascha Uhlig aka Basco from ashore is a music aficionado we follow for a long time. His musical taste is close to ours regardless of the genre. For this reason, it was clear that we need him to join our roster. Since his love for and taste in hip-hop satisfies us, whether it is classic rap or more modern and pop orientated stuff. He was the number one pick for our SLCTN series. With his mix for episode 16 the Hip Hop Selection series is back after a 2-year long break. After a year now it finally worked out for both sides and it was really worth the wait. His podcast simply reflects and depicts what we’ve hoped for. German underground rap, experimental beats and US heavyweights from the past and present. The ashore member mixed artists like DJ Sotofett with Ghostface Killah, Pusha T, Eloquent and more with ease.
