Tilman by Lena Usenko

Interview: Tilman – “Creativity comes and goes, sometimes I end up with something great and work on it, or it’s nothing I like and just let it go.”

Tilman from Mainz is a busy person right now. After running his great klamauk label for quite a while already in a successful way he now also takes care of Fine, the label he runs with Johannes Albert. If you know Johannes and Tilman you definitely get why they get along so well and run the label with great effort. Tilman is positive all the way, not just regards his music, but as well as a person. You feel his warmth and his enthusiasm for music and life from the very beginning, even before he says something. Coming from the hip hop background, making his way through house, soul, disco and funk he now is where he is. Displpaying a huge variety of sounds and styles, how he got there and what happened on the way is just one facet we talked about.

We finally managed to get in touch with Marbod to talk about his musical upbringing, what impact hip hop had in his musical growth, what it’s like to run a label and what drinks he’s into at the moment. Dirk Puchta really is a jack of all trades. He’s not only producing house and techno under his Marbod moniker, but also running the neat Lofile Records imprint and his own cafe Filterhouse, located at Graefekiez in Berlin. Pretty much to do, but still Dirk might be one of the loveliest, funniest and cheerful perons you’ll probably meet. On top he’s producing and playing great music, his food and coffee is delicious as well. Almost too good to be true.

5 years of “Frank Music” that’s the perfect reason to have a quick chat with label owner Johannes Albert. Strongly connected to Würzburg and Franconia in general he showed his love with the name of the label. Now residing in Berlin, Johannes loves to play all kind of stuff. Whether it is disco, 90s house, or what ever. During our conversation we got to know his “Let’s be Frank” side of his character, on top he shared some insights about the label, his productions and what he does during his DJ sets. You can experience an excerpt of his DJ set from the 5th of december at Farbfernseher, Berlin as Ohrenschmaus Podcast #037. Keep reading

Recent Records of the Week #48 // 2015

Highlights of the WeekRecent Records

This week we couldn’t come up with any records unfortunately. Searching for hours there was not a single release that hooked us on his groove, seduced us with outstanding vocal work or re-invented something new. It’s sad out there when it comes to house & techno releases at the moment. Of course it is nice to see all those re-issues popping up and providing us a second chance to buy the records for reasonable prices, instead of paying the discogs sellers that overprice the gems we would like to call our own. On the other hand, it seems like there’s not much left besides those re-releases. All the records sound like records we already own, no one tries to do something different, no one takes his time to achieve his own signature sound. This weeks news felt like copies of tracks that were great in fact, but you don’t need 20 tracks that sound the same. It seems like the young guns, producer like labels, always head for a safe way. A way they know it works when it comes to selling records or for the producer, a way they know it will function on the dancefloor. But that’s not what house & techno is all about, it’s about moving on, trying to invent something, trying to make things differently, creating excitement and emotions. Nothing of this was seen in this weeks news sadly.

P.S.: We know that there are labels that provide us with great releases, as well as there are producers that excite us, but both are getting less.

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #027 – Mahone

Our Podcasts

If you want to get lost, here’s your opportunity fellas. Ohrenschmaus podcast #027 delivers a superb mix by our lovely one hit wonder Mahone. Jokes apart, that dude has mad skills as a discjockey and producer as well. We are really happy to got the chance to upload an mix by him since we really like his approach towards, and his taste in music. Starting of with nice ambient sounds flowing around the speakers he slowly builds up a nice groove by heading over to some deep dub and some serious house later on. This one really needs no words, quality all the way. Thanks christoph, your OP.

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #026 – Philipp Roth

Our Podcasts

For our february podcast we invited our artdirector. Philipp Roth delivers a well selected and rough sounding podcast #026 which includes a lot of records we never heard before which we are keen to find out who produced those beauties. Besides recording this podcast philipp also spins records at his own party at K4 Zentralcafé in Nuremberg, which is called [party] as well. With Hoke & Baul joining him as djs & founders as well it definitely is one of the most enjoyable parties you can find in our hometown, so if you want to catch them just follow the eventlink below. On top you will find some other links after the text, as Nanuk he is doing all his art stuff, under this alias he also took care of our logo, all the tape artworks, banners and profile pictures. If you find the name Red On on a flyer he’s offering you a nice dose of experimental-postrock-whatever kind of thing whether it is solo or with his band. He really has some mad skills on many different things so please check him out and first of all enjoy this mix, your op.

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #008 – Baaz

Our Podcasts

We go on as time goes on. After 7 great mixes here comes number 8, we welcome Baaz on board. The Berlin based producer has made himself a name so far, after releasing his first vinyl on Agnès’ imprint Sthlmaudio he moved on with releasing his third record on Elevate which was founded by Daniel Bell. Now after releases on Minuende Recordings, Quintessentials and Slices of Life he launched his own label which is called Office Recordings. You should keep your eyes open for this one, he already released 2 quality EPs and there is still more to come. Besides his outstanding productions he is also known as a great DJ as you can hear in the mix. He gets deeper and deeper without losing the vibe and groove. We are more than happy with his podcast, please enjoy it as much as we do. This one has the flavor we all need nowadays!
