Review: Baaz – Two (For You) EP – Office Recordings

AllgemeinHouseReviewsTechno

After Office Recordings 10th release by Iron Curtis and his “Maple EP” Baaz is back on his own Imprint. Office Recordings 11th release, again, shows a very different side. The Berlin based dj and producer showed his broad musical taste throughout recent releases. Dub techno under his Eric Miller moniker. Sharp house sounds on the latest Idealistmusic. Techno on this very record we are reviewing. The sound ranges from dub techno to ambient and into playful techno. Another side added, another one which is way above average.

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #048 – Barbara Boeing

Our Podcasts

For our 48th edition we stumbled across Barbara Boeing from Curitiba, Brasil. The 31 year old regularly plays as a resident at Alter Disco and Discoteca Odara. We really like her style when it comes to music. She treats everything equally, Brazilian music, disco, house, techno or anything in-between. She really has a passion for many different styles. You usual can’t know what she’s playing due to her versatility. But one thing is for certain, she never lets you down. Ohrenschmaus Podcast #048 is no exception. Quality disco tracks bring the sunshine and are combined with sample-based house and some minor techno. A very unique mixture, but all those different tracks end up in a very powerful mix. We really hope you guys and girls enjoy her contribution as much as we do, your Ohrenschmaus Podcast!

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #048 – Barbara Boeing by Ohrenschmaus Podcast

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #048 comes straight from Brazil. Curitiba to be more exact. Barbara Boeing took care of the selection and mix this time and delivers a perfect mixture of house, disco and techno. Lovely sunshine music for the great weather in Nuremberg right now, but also very energetic and dark in certain passages.

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #047 – Alessandro Crimi

Our Podcasts

After we had some delays the last couple of times, we are now speeding up a little. Three weeks after Marc FM’s extraordinary ambient podcast, we are now back on track. Alessandro Crimi took care of our 47th edition. The “Waehlscheibe” head honcho is on our list for a really long time. His outrageously good podcasts caught our attention a while ago and now he joins the series, finally. Besides his superb taste in house and techno music he also knows the hip-hop goodies. (Maybe we have to ask for a hip-hop podcast as well?!) Alessandro sent us this nice journey through different styles of contemporary club music, combining modern and classic house sounds. Perfect for these sunny days or your pre-drinking session on the weekend. Make sure to check this spectacular 90 minutes, your Ohrenschmaus Podcast.

Review: Moon – Industrie & Zärtlichkeit – Frank Music

HouseReviewsTechno

Johannes and Johannes team up again. We are speaking about Johannes Paluka, better known as Iron Curtis and Frank Music head honcho Johannes Albert. The Berlin residents joined forces again to craft their first album as Moon. “Industrie & Zärtlichkeit” is the final product out of this collaboration and it surely depicts the musical influences both have, but somehow it offers much more. “Industrie & Zärtlichkeit” is not simply filled with Johannes Albert’s rough and cheesy house sound and it’s not only Iron Curtis’ melodies and exciting chord progression. It’s more of a journey through different decades, times and styles of electronic music developed so far, merged into their very own sound that somewhat pays tribute to everything from the past and also gives us a vision of what could come next. The vinyl LP consists of nine exciting originals and two remixes. Lerosa and Black Spuma took care of the remixes and twisted the original material into their own understanding of electronic music.

Review: Drei Farben House – Fluency Fabrics LP – Tenderpark

HouseReviews

Three and a half years after Drei Farben House’s third LP “Choice Item”, he is back with his fourth long-playing record “Fluency Fabrics”. It’s the 20th release for his very own Tenderpark imprint and therefore a very nice anniversary. Seven tracks made it onto the record in the end and all of them are spiced with lots of vocal, funk, disco and soul samples. Drei Farben House again delivered what he is known for already. House and deep house with a certain warmth, on point grooves and samples that are a tribute to the originals they were taken from. Of course the whole album is not coming up with serious changes, but that’s not the vision Micha is following. Once again he plays around with sounds that are quite familiar and he already used, but for this album he enmeshes them differently. He flips the old samples and comes up with something new that is still true to his sound. The same approach can be seen on the artwork. “Choice Item” and “Fluency Fabrics” both depict architecture in a natural environment, so the aesthetical idea remained the same. So both albums connect on many levels and still “Fluency Fabrics” is recognizably the next step, with more details soundwise and an even clearer visual message, created by Till Sperle.

Interview: Tilman – “Creativity comes and goes, sometimes I end up with something great and work on it, or it’s nothing I like and just let it go.”

DJsInterviewsProducer

Tilman from Mainz is a busy person right now. After running his great klamauk label for quite a while already in a successful way he now also takes care of Fine, the label he runs with Johannes Albert. If you know Johannes and Tilman you definitely get why they get along so well and run the label with great effort. Tilman is positive all the way, not just regards his music, but as well as a person. You feel his warmth and his enthusiasm for music and life from the very beginning, even before he says something. Coming from the hip hop background, making his way through house, soul, disco and funk he now is where he is. Displpaying a huge variety of sounds and styles, how he got there and what happened on the way is just one facet we talked about.

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #045 – Cromby

Our Podcasts

Cromby is the man behind our 45th edition of the monthly displayed house and techno mixes. He blessed us with a nice selection of warm house tunes that have playful jazz elements, warm chords and deepness without limitation. The first time we stumbled across Cromby was back in the days when he released his “Planets and Parks EP” on the Berlin based Tenderpark Imprint by Drei Farben House. Now he is living in the capital city as well and plays some finely mixed house sets in different clubs. With his Boiler Room appearance together with his mate Swoose at the AVA festival he really convinced us to get in touch with him. That’s what we did and here we are now a few months later, presenting his lovely podcast. Please have fun with it and enjoy the 45th mix on Ohrenschmaus Podcast by Cromby.

Opal Sunn – Part I – Planet Sundae

HouseReviews

Opal Sunn comes out with their “Part I” EP on Planet Sundae at the perfect time. The cold and stormy days slowly disappear, instead the sun comes out for a few hours and warms our hearts, bodies and souls with some positive beams. Hiroaki OBA and Al Kassian, created the perfect vinyl for this weather shift with the lovely four tracker which they’ve created between 2015 and 2016. Together they’ve decided to go by the name of Opal Sunn and besides the beauty of the name it also perfectly delivers how the sound feels like: sunny. But not in a cheesy way, it’s very sophisticated and independent in comparison to many other releases at the moment. But not just the artists invested their best in creating the tracks, the guys from Planet Sundae completed the EP with a superb cover. The artwork is quite uncommon for house releases and is a nice mixture of old school paint feelings and modern fluid 3D objects. The RGB color shift in the liquid on the cover is just spectacular and a real eye catcher. Just quality work from all protagonists.

Review: Skipson – Plastek EP – DreamAwake Records

HouseReviews

Skipson is back, finally. The wait is over and it was worth it though. After several releases on Deep Vibes, Quintessentials, Maria Colors, Raum…Musik and many other labels, the Berlin based house head is back in the game. With his new “Plastek EP” he created the content for DreamAwake Records’ first vinyl release. As usual Skipson is doing some serious things with his very unique house sound that is heavily influenced by hip hop. Chopped samples get mashed up with cozy vibes. Three originals and a remix by Edward made it onto the record in the end. Superb house music with Skip’s signature sound on twelve inch again. Don’t call it a comeback! Keep reading

Review: Tilman & Soutine – One Day Off – Fine

HouseReviews

Tilman and Soutine team up for the fourth release on the small Fine imprint, which is run by Tilman himself and Frank Music’s very own Johannes Albert. While Tilman is pretty familiar to us with his warm, discoish and sample based house sound, we had to do some research about Soutine. Now that we did that, we can say it’s a match sound wise. Soutine, who is based in Florence relies on the same idea behind his music, but he plays around with more uptempo styles as displayed on his “OZ” EP which came out in February 2016 on his own Oltrarno Recordings. Using the same foundation and generating a neat symbiosis out of the different influences they have, a very enjoyable record came out in the end of that process.
