RAINER TRUEBY – TO KNOW YOU / AYERS ROCK – NOT ON LABEL (TR001):
Originally released in 2009 this EP came into the house world like a meteor strike. No one was able to ignore this record and almost everyone wanted to own it. Because of the popular demand, discogs prices went nuts. If you wanted to buy it you had to pay from 35€ to 60€, but luckily there was a repress of this beauty which came in last week. So here’s the second chance to add some funk to your record bag for a reasonable price. “To know you” kicks things of, the a-side delivers a nice vibe throughout starting with a long build up. A few bars of nicely sampled kicks, before you here the famous vocal for the first time: “To know you”. Oh don’t worry lovely tune, we already know you inside out. Afterwards funky basslines come in and support the vibe that already started, various percussions support the unique rhythm this production has to offer. Guitar samples emerge out of lovely and warm sounding chords regularly and add a sensational touch to this peace of pure deepness. A strong string introduces itself to set the stage for the break, a short but at the same time well set pause that makes some room for the beautiful extended vocal. Supported by sounds from the fields of acid house this track takes the next step in terms of deepness and drive. The right amount of power, vocals, drums, pads, chords and samples flow harmonically to the end of the track. “Ayers Rock” on the flip-side delivers strong and dark techno pads and is the total opposite of “To know you” which makes this EP well balanced. Mysterious Vocals in the back- and foreground support this slow-mo dark house track. Dirty drums pop up, some nice bongos make their way and introduce a long spoken vocal during the break. Combined with little acid added on top this track really takes you on a special trip. Whether it’s a sunny open air you’re playing or in a dark, dusty and dirty club with this record you are prepared for everything. This one is a must-have for every house head.
ÂME – SARARI / HYDROLIC DOG – SONAR KOLLEKTIV:
Âme, who founded “Innervisions” with Dixon in 2005 needs no introduction anymore. With their “Sarari / Hydrolic Dog” they offered 2 varying cuts for the dancefloor back in 2003 on “Sonar Kollektiv”. While “Sarari” is a slow electro-funk flavoured house stomper, providing atmospheric pads and fancy strings that remind us of the g-funk era beats from dr. dre and many others, as well as the original tracks where they’ve sampled from. “Hydrolic Dog” serves us some serious prime-time tech house flavour. Lush bass drums and funky chords that pop up in between make this track really dynamic. Dull pads, played like chords in the so called 90s house style, add even more power and drive to this piece. Epic sounding strings see the light of day a few minutes into the track. A reverb equipped clap and extended drums light up the fire, before some heavy synth add on to the bounce of the track. It seems like there are trillions of sounds involved and contributing to this unique and energetic track. “Hydrolic Dog” really is a master piece, even after 12 years now it still will drive the audience crazy.
