Ohrenschmaus Podcast #050 – Maria Brant

Our Podcasts

“Watching decks turn – but it is important to listen” that’s the subheading for our 50th mix. The podcast series this time showcases Maria Brant. We never thought about making it to this ridiculous number, but here we are. And we will continue our work, that’s for sure. Maria Brant a DJ, radio host, promoter and of course a friend of us finally is involved in our small project. His mix is more than a podcast. It simply is a radio show without talking. The first half of the mix has a cosy mood and highlights some soft-beat stuff, ambient, electronica, world music and some minor drone influences. The second half matches the overall feeling and taste but showcases some more club orientated qualities. Left field and experimental house meets mid-tempo house and soft techno with retro synths, lush pads and lots of analogue sounds. Take your time and follow this beautiful acoustic scenery. Thanks Christian for participating, your OP.

Review: Korablove - Singular Plankter - Silhouette Tapes

Review: Korablove – Singular Plankter – Silhouette Tapes

HouseReviewsTechno

The “Singular Plankter” EP by Korablove is the third release by Silhouette Tapes, which resides in Bayreuth. It was founded by cold_am, ShoutLove, VesOFF and Rostislav Kulchitskiy. On their cassette label they release some dark, dubby and experimental tracks from the fields of techno, house, ambient and everything that fits their vision. With Korablove they engaged a skilled producer who has already released his less experimental stuff on labels like Studio R, Elusive, 200 Records, Pro-Tez, Apparel Music, Herz ist Trumpf and so on. His “Singular Plankter” EP depicts an unknown side of him, playing with everlasting pads, broad strings and calmer drums. Keep reading

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #043 – Markus “Mutze” Mutzenbacher

Our Podcasts

We open things up with the return of Markus “Mutze” Mutzenbacher in 2017. The Würzburg based resident of MS Zufriedenheit, Piknik and Kontur offered us a nice trip through ambient, house, techno and break beat. It is so good we had to bring him and his outstanding taste back to Ohrenschmaus Podcast. So here it is 71 minutes of well selected and precisely mixed tracks for the cold January. His great abilities are not just notable in his wonderful mixes, Markus also has the knowledge and understands the craft like no other when it comes to smooth warm ups and danceable closing sets. To put it in a nutshell he is a hell of a dj! Thanks for the second contribution to the series, we are delighted!

Red On - Ghana Remixed

Review: Red On – Ghana Remixed – Verydeeprecords

HouseReviewsTechno

The 15th release of the Nuremberg based label Verydeeprecords is the first one to appear on vinyl, after several tapes and digital projects from artists like Bambi Davidson, Christoff Riedel, Vincent von Flieger, Willis Anne, Magic Meru and many more. “Ghana Remixed” by Red On is a great four track heavy EP with remixes and edits by The Marx Trukker, A. Elm, Alex Ketzer and Red On himself under his Philipp Roth alias. As usual there were no musical boundaries on this project and it ended up with diverse re-interpretations of the original tracks, somewhere between left-field house and experimental techno. Trux - Trux - Office Recordings

Review: Trux – Trux – Office Recordings

HouseReviewsTechno

Office Recordings’ 7th release came out a couple of days ago, displaying a brand new style of contemporary music. With catalogue nr. 7 by Baaz’s very own Berlin based imprint it’s not about club playtime, this release is for connoisseurs of experimental and left field house music and ambient fans. The producer behind this project Trux remains a mystery, no information can be found. The self titled Trux release comes as a kind of mini LP with eight tracks, four on the a-side and four on the b-side. A nice mix between obscure house and free floating ambient add a whole new sound idea to the label’s earlier releases. Again the artwork keeps up with the music in terms of quality, created by the highly talented Super Quiet. Keep reading

Laurine, Dj Tree, Cecilio, S. Moreira and P. Villalba are Slow Life. A label, a collective, producers, party hosts and outstanding djs.

Introducing: Slow Life

DJsIntroducingLabelsProducer

2013 marked the start of an outstanding journey for the Slow Life label and collective. Their first release was Sergio Moreira’s “We Are All Fra!” which should have been the second record to drop and is also noted as SL002 in the label’s catalogue. Right from the start the label had to deal with the problems of releasing nowadays. The pressing plant they first chose to craft the SL001 went bankrupt and in the meanwhile SL002 was on the way. After they found a new pressing plant they labeled the record wrong and had to do it all over again. Luckily with Kristina Records they have a superb partner that takes care of distribution and leaves Laurine, Cecilio, DJ Tree, S. Moreira and P. Villalba a bit more time to curate upcoming 12 inches. From the beginning the collective showed a clear idea and a lot of passion towards raw, organic and deep electronic music. Whether it is house, techno, experimental or break beat stuff. “Fuck the Clock” their first or second release, it depends if you look at the catalogue number or release date, perfectly adds to the label’s name. Slow Life is more than a bunch of people, they are friends and therefore not just a functional crew. It’s run with love and enthusiasm since the very first day and that’s what makes it so special to us. They don’t want to rush releases just to be there, they take their time to deliver quality tracks. Quantity is a word that can’t be found in their vocabulary and that’s wonderful. After the first three releases which could be described as atmospheric basic house they moved on and started to be more experimental from release four onwards. Not a single release has let us down so far and every single of it made his way to our collection immediately. With release number six the hispano-italian project takes the next step and comes up with a nice double 12 inch adding a lot of new and exciting producers to the label besides the usual suspects Sergio Moreira and Saverio Celestri. You better fasten your seatbelt already, this release once again will bring some fresh sounds to the scene. Besides having a great philosophy concerning the label and collective they also host great parties and are insanely gifted djs. From break beats to house, techno, off beat stuff and much more, it seems everything is possible if they unite behind the decks. Never losing the groove, never loosing the drive and at the same time treating you with unknown gems that are pure candy to your ears. Simply great people that do things in the way they should be done, serving as a role model for upcoming labels that want to stay in the scene and not disappear after a few releases. The whole project is just pleasant and we are thankful that they are out there, treating us with beautiful music. As djs and as a label as well.
