Ohrenschmaus Podcast #054 – Arsy

Our Podcasts

With our 54th mix we warmly welcome Arsy. Thanks to our strong network, in this case Marc FM, we had the chance to get in touch with this young man. After a quick research in our record collection we stumbled across his name on a few EPs we own. Dough! With releases and productions for Laubenpiepers Finest, liebe*detail and many more this lad already made a few things right production wise if you would be more than humble. As a DJ he keeps up with that high quality standard and heavily spins dub and acid infused tracks whenever he’s behind those lovely Technics turntables. Exactly that’s what he sent us for the 54th Ohrenschmaus Podcast. Melodic dub techno with sweet breaks, long-lasting chords and lots of meditational elements. At the mid section of his mix he slowly brings in rough and powerful drum sounds that introduce us to soft acid synths that evolve into loud and harsh wolves towards the end. We really feel the winter with all his beauty and dark energy when we listen to this podcast time and time again. Great work throughout, but have a listen by yourself. Thanks Arsy, stomping work!

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #045 – Cromby

Our Podcasts

Cromby is the man behind our 45th edition of the monthly displayed house and techno mixes. He blessed us with a nice selection of warm house tunes that have playful jazz elements, warm chords and deepness without limitation. The first time we stumbled across Cromby was back in the days when he released his “Planets and Parks EP” on the Berlin based Tenderpark Imprint by Drei Farben House. Now he is living in the capital city as well and plays some finely mixed house sets in different clubs. With his Boiler Room appearance together with his mate Swoose at the AVA festival he really convinced us to get in touch with him. That’s what we did and here we are now a few months later, presenting his lovely podcast. Please have fun with it and enjoy the 45th mix on Ohrenschmaus Podcast by Cromby.

Review: Korablove - Singular Plankter - Silhouette Tapes

Review: Korablove – Singular Plankter – Silhouette Tapes

HouseReviewsTechno

The “Singular Plankter” EP by Korablove is the third release by Silhouette Tapes, which resides in Bayreuth. It was founded by cold_am, ShoutLove, VesOFF and Rostislav Kulchitskiy. On their cassette label they release some dark, dubby and experimental tracks from the fields of techno, house, ambient and everything that fits their vision. With Korablove they engaged a skilled producer who has already released his less experimental stuff on labels like Studio R, Elusive, 200 Records, Pro-Tez, Apparel Music, Herz ist Trumpf and so on. His “Singular Plankter” EP depicts an unknown side of him, playing with everlasting pads, broad strings and calmer drums. Keep reading

Apollo, the second release on Olympos, shapes the profile of the Greek based label another time. 4 deep and melodic techno anthems stay anonymous again.

Review: Unknown Artist – Apollo – Olympos

HouseReviewsTechno

The second release from Olympos is called “Apollo” and once again delivers a nice variety of contemporary club tracks from the fields of house and techno. Apollo is the god of light, cure and spring in Greek mythology to bring you the title a bit closer. As usual the artist behind this EP stays unknown for now, nevertheless it’s obvious that whoever it is really has some great sense for crafting sharp and powerful rhythms. After the strong first release the label from Greek keeps up his great effort and shapes his profile once more. Keep reading

Review: Betke – Paris-Beirut-Texas (incl. Baaz & So Inagawa Remix) – Slices of Life

HouseReviewsTechno

With the 8th release from Slices of Life, the Berlin based label from Barbara Preisinger once again offers an outstanding selection of contemporary club tracks. Originally produced in 2008 Betke’s funky and rough “Paris-Beirut-Texas” finally sees the light of day. Serving some nice grooves for a smooth club night, on top the track gets a great remix from So Inagawa who already showed his amazing understanding of house and techno several times. Plus Office Recordings owner Baaz adds a great dub interpretation of the original to complete the EP in great style. Keep reading

Mix of the Week #10 // 2016: XDB at Control Club, Bucharest

Highlights of the WeekMix of the Week

We started our week with the live recording of XDB’s set at Control Club in Bucharest. XDB is one of the djs that are in the game for ages and still keep things hot always treating you with quality records and a superb vibe while playing a show. Atmospheric tracks that are guarded by some acid and dub bombs all the way. That might be a short description of this set, of course as usual XDB offers you powerful tracks that move your body and shows his unique way of arranging a club set. Old and forgotten gems and new releases or promos, Kosta always keeps you digging for the beauties he dropped. One of the most impressive things of his mixes for sure is the amount of widely unknown tracks from back in the days, but he also shows us his favourite tracks on Facebook with his regular postings of “Tracks i do really LOVE…” and he never disappoints musically. One of the best djs and producers for us. It seems like he is gifted on both ends with a very special attempt towards playing vinyl and creating his own productions.

Classic Records of the Week #46 // 2015

Classic RecordsHighlights of the Week

KENNY LANE – NEEDED EP – FRAGIL MUSIQUE:

Fragil Musique from France provides a great 10 inch vinyl from Kenny Lane. “Needed”, the name of this EP perfectly describes what many must have thought during their first listening sessions of the snippets. “I desperately need this release”, must be the thought that came up in several minds. “What I Need” by Kenny himself on the a-side is a beautiful raw house cut. Dirty drum sounds with lots of reverb and chorus are in full effect during the whole track. The sparely used pitch on the drums adds some dynamic to the pattern and lets the crisp strings stand out even more. The vocal sample adds another facet to this piece with it’s meaningful words, but doesn’t limit the power of the tune at the same time. The “What I Need (Powerful People Remix)” by Le Loup completes the 10 inch. The remix is a bit calmer compared to the original and is based on a super peaceful string. Pounding kicks and a sophisticated drum arrangement breaths life into this track. Because of it’s humming bassline and the powerful drums this flick creates enough energy to entertain the dance floor continuously. The breaks stand out with broken beat influenced drums and a magical vocal that softly whispers to your ear while making his way from the background into the spotlight. The remix really is a mysterious, yet energetic track that gives you countless opportunities.  To put it in a nutshell, the original and the remix complement each other perfectly and offer you one of the best Fragil releases so far.

BLM – STEP TO THIS – FEAR OF FLYING:

Ben Micklewright, the man behind the BLM alias delivers 3 quality originals on Fear of Flying and a Geddes Dub on top. “Garage is back” opens  the record on the a-side. An almost alarming amount of drive is contributed by the lovely looped pads and striking drums. In combination with sparely used percussions and an atmospheric string rushing through this song the power levels perfectly. There’s enough drive and groove to move the dancers in front of you and on the other hand it still stays in touch with the deeper spheres of house music. “Step to this”, the second track on the main side of the record exactly provides what his name tells you. Extremely powerful kicks, energetic drums and shuffled sounds get a boost from the heavily bouncing bassline. Soft strings show up every now and then and build the foundation for dominantly played chords. “Step to this” almost is a bit overpowered in comparison to the other tracks on this 12 inch, but it does what it should. It really makes you want to move due to the large amount of power in every part and sound that has been used.  The “Garage is back (Geddes Dub)” opens the door to the b-side. Geddes’ dub version sticks closely to the original and simply adds a more relaxed vibe to all the sounds with smoothly pitched pads and few laid back sounds in addition. This could be the ecological version of BLM’s mix, perfect for every sunrise, sunset or whenever you want to create a cozy mood. This should be the blueprint for many remixers out there, because it’s not necessary to do everything different. Of course you can, but the best remixes simply add another vibe to the original and pay homage to the primary material. The last track on this EP is called “Priority Remix (Original Mix)” and completes this record nicely. The second track on the b-side offers an intelligent arrangement with soulful vocal loops, harmonic strings and sunrise chords in full effect. This track touches everyone with it’s jazzy parts and slowly evolving deepness. You almost can feel the sounds reach into your soul, planting trees of love and hope. Outstanding emotionality that no other track created so far, is what makes this piece of art unique in every way. In the end all four tracks offer quality with different approaches, but the “Priority Remix (Original Mix)” really lifts this whole EP to a whole different level. This is one is a must-have!

Ohrenschmaus Podcast #031 – Agon

Our Podcasts

Agon is a longtime friend of us. That’s why we are extremely happy to introduce his mix as Ohrenschmaus Podcast #031 to you. For quite a long time he was in control of his own podcast series which was called Cirque Digital with guest mixes by Ernie, Patrick Luca, Marbod and many more. Recently this project came to an end, but don’t be too sad. The reason he didn’t continue with the series was that he launched his label Portray, which is also an party at Anita Berber in Berlin. The first release was done by Jonas Palzer and there is more to come, the Portray parties don’t lack in quality as well with bookings like the Lack Rec. crew, Marbod and RVDS as an upcoming booking. For his mix he took the deep and dub train to quickly hit the state of relaxation. This mix really is a beauty, thank you very much agon and keep up the good work, your Ohrenschmaus Podcast.
P.S.: Sorry for the delay, but we are busy with exams at the moment!
