Review: Korablove – Singular Plankter – Silhouette Tapes

The “Singular Plankter” EP by Korablove is the third release by Silhouette Tapes, which resides in Bayreuth. It was founded by cold_am, ShoutLove, VesOFF and Rostislav Kulchitskiy. On their cassette label they release some dark, dubby and experimental tracks from the fields of techno, house, ambient and everything that fits their vision. With Korablove they engaged a skilled producer who has already released his less experimental stuff on labels like Studio R, Elusive, 200 Records, Pro-Tez, Apparel Music, Herz ist Trumpf and so on. His “Singular Plankter” EP depicts an unknown side of him, playing with everlasting pads, broad strings and calmer drums.

The “Singular” called a-side is a smooth and sizzling trip that mostly relies on steady ambient elements. Evolving Pads that range from low to high frequencies are accompanied by squeeking strings that stream in every now and then, giving the whole arrangement a wider feel. The slightly delayed sounds and the mechanic sounding reverbs used on this side function in a great way, all the sounds are well modulated and whirr around without getting too complex. The choir sounds which are coming in during the 29 minute long trip add some depth and dynamic. As a whole the a-side delivers some precisely tuned and very organic sounding ambient madness which is very enjoyable throughout. “Plankter” the b-side of this audiocassette continues in similar fashion, without repeating the a-side. It is more melodious and more complex in contrast. The sounds differentiate from “Singular” with much calmer and natural sounds, as well as offering more metallic and industrial pads floating in. After all there’s no better or worse side on “Singular Plankter” you have to enjoy it as a whole, it’s just some great ambient with dark and raw sounds that also offers a lot of natural and organic bliss.
