Ohrenschmaus Podcast #039 – Garçon

Our Podcasts

Time is running and sometimes you need to get away from all the fastly moving things in life to regain some energy. This progress was musically translated in perfection by Garçon with his mix for our 39th installment. Deep and unbelievably melodic mid-tempo house in perfection ends up in 60 minutes of slow motion madness. You listen to his selection, his calm mixing and the great selection takes you on a ride serving your ears a cup of green tea while you lose the feeling for time. Simply a nicely done hour that eases your mind by the swiss fella. The first time we noticed him was back then when he did a mix for “Keep It Deep” which now has transformed into “Emotional Content”. With Timnah Sommerfeldt he hosts the radio show “Home” on Radio Ghost Town that already invited DJs like Gerd Janson, Kastil, Candy Pollard, Ben Ufo, Eli Verveine and many more. We are really thankful for his contribution and absolutely fell in love with his creation. So here you go ladies and gents, please enjoy this wonderful experience, your OP.

Various Artists - Chromophore EP - Slow Life

Review: Various Artists – Chromophore EP – Slow Life

HouseReviewsTechno

With the Chromophore EP Slow Life once again delivers a release that matches their unique way. There’s not much you have to say about the collective anymore. The Gang consisting of Laurine, DJ Tree, Cecilio, S. Moreira and P. Villalba stands for quality podcasts, selections, parties and superb releases. For catalogue number SL006 they gathered a nice amount of tracks and release their first double 12 inch. Besides Saverio Celestri and S. Moreira they also introduce us to some new names, such as Mick Welch, Luis Malon, Seafoam, A² and Primary Perception. All eight tracks adapt to the sound aesthetics that the label presented in their previous releases and also adds on to them in fashionable manner. Keep reading

Review: Betke – Paris-Beirut-Texas (incl. Baaz & So Inagawa Remix) – Slices of Life

HouseReviewsTechno

With the 8th release from Slices of Life, the Berlin based label from Barbara Preisinger once again offers an outstanding selection of contemporary club tracks. Originally produced in 2008 Betke’s funky and rough “Paris-Beirut-Texas” finally sees the light of day. Serving some nice grooves for a smooth club night, on top the track gets a great remix from So Inagawa who already showed his amazing understanding of house and techno several times. Plus Office Recordings owner Baaz adds a great dub interpretation of the original to complete the EP in great style. Keep reading

Laurine, Dj Tree, Cecilio, S. Moreira and P. Villalba are Slow Life. A label, a collective, producers, party hosts and outstanding djs.

Introducing: Slow Life

DJsIntroducingLabelsProducer

2013 marked the start of an outstanding journey for the Slow Life label and collective. Their first release was Sergio Moreira’s “We Are All Fra!” which should have been the second record to drop and is also noted as SL002 in the label’s catalogue. Right from the start the label had to deal with the problems of releasing nowadays. The pressing plant they first chose to craft the SL001 went bankrupt and in the meanwhile SL002 was on the way. After they found a new pressing plant they labeled the record wrong and had to do it all over again. Luckily with Kristina Records they have a superb partner that takes care of distribution and leaves Laurine, Cecilio, DJ Tree, S. Moreira and P. Villalba a bit more time to curate upcoming 12 inches. From the beginning the collective showed a clear idea and a lot of passion towards raw, organic and deep electronic music. Whether it is house, techno, experimental or break beat stuff. “Fuck the Clock” their first or second release, it depends if you look at the catalogue number or release date, perfectly adds to the label’s name. Slow Life is more than a bunch of people, they are friends and therefore not just a functional crew. It’s run with love and enthusiasm since the very first day and that’s what makes it so special to us. They don’t want to rush releases just to be there, they take their time to deliver quality tracks. Quantity is a word that can’t be found in their vocabulary and that’s wonderful. After the first three releases which could be described as atmospheric basic house they moved on and started to be more experimental from release four onwards. Not a single release has let us down so far and every single of it made his way to our collection immediately. With release number six the hispano-italian project takes the next step and comes up with a nice double 12 inch adding a lot of new and exciting producers to the label besides the usual suspects Sergio Moreira and Saverio Celestri. You better fasten your seatbelt already, this release once again will bring some fresh sounds to the scene. Besides having a great philosophy concerning the label and collective they also host great parties and are insanely gifted djs. From break beats to house, techno, off beat stuff and much more, it seems everything is possible if they unite behind the decks. Never losing the groove, never loosing the drive and at the same time treating you with unknown gems that are pure candy to your ears. Simply great people that do things in the way they should be done, serving as a role model for upcoming labels that want to stay in the scene and not disappear after a few releases. The whole project is just pleasant and we are thankful that they are out there, treating us with beautiful music. As djs and as a label as well.

Mix of the Week #10 // 2016: XDB at Control Club, Bucharest

Highlights of the WeekMix of the Week

We started our week with the live recording of XDB’s set at Control Club in Bucharest. XDB is one of the djs that are in the game for ages and still keep things hot always treating you with quality records and a superb vibe while playing a show. Atmospheric tracks that are guarded by some acid and dub bombs all the way. That might be a short description of this set, of course as usual XDB offers you powerful tracks that move your body and shows his unique way of arranging a club set. Old and forgotten gems and new releases or promos, Kosta always keeps you digging for the beauties he dropped. One of the most impressive things of his mixes for sure is the amount of widely unknown tracks from back in the days, but he also shows us his favourite tracks on Facebook with his regular postings of “Tracks i do really LOVE…” and he never disappoints musically. One of the best djs and producers for us. It seems like he is gifted on both ends with a very special attempt towards playing vinyl and creating his own productions.

Mix of the Week #09 // 2016: It Works Podcast – Marbod

Highlights of the WeekMix of the Week

Our favorite podcast this week comes from our friends over at It Works Podcast. Their 53rd installment was recorded by Marbod, the head honcho of Lofile Records. After quite a while it seems like the label is back with some new releases we are really looking for. Until then we thought why not treat ourselves to the brand new podcast from Marbod. His 60 minutes lasting creation takes us into the world of raw and organic mid-tempo house flavored with some minimalistic and Detroit like house beats in between, generating a laid back and comfortable feeling all the way. Simply a beautiful and nice selection we really enjoyed while taking care of the household here on this grey and cold day in Nuremberg.

P.S.: If you’re in Berlin visit him at his nice little Filterhouse cafe and bar for some slow brewed coffee or some nice drinks in Neukölln.
